[WEE]: How wee, cocaine, other drugs ruined the life of a scrap dealer

A young man has shared a troubled story of how drugs have ruined his life.

Zion Adotey, in an interview with host DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa bravely tells the world how using ecstasy destroyed his life.

Zion, who is in his thirties, is struck by his gaunt features and beaten-down demeanour. He has been doing it tough on the streets of Tema for the past two decades.

“I started using drugs in my early teen life; like many other people do, starting with pot and alcohol, and then gradually turning to methamphetamine and eventually cocaine. I thought life was one big party until the party started taking over my life.” Zion said.

Zion narrated how he was manipulated by his uncle to do drugs. “My father’s younger brother put a drug in my drink unknowingly and I took it. I felt great and since then, I couldn’t stop taking the drugs and had to upgrade to a higher level like cocaine”.

“Later in life, I found out about methamphetamine, which turned out to be the worst thing I could have ever done. Now I stayed up for days at a time, became extremely paranoid and scattered mentally until I couldn’t even hold down the most menial jobs.” He said.

Zion, who was a Tailor is now dealing in scraps; discarded metals to make ends meet. But it wasn’t long before Zion’s vulnerability, brutal honesty and evident inner strength shone through.

Zion is a survivor. Like any child growing up, Zion said he has hopes and dreams that, when given needed care and support, he will be totally transformed.

“I am ever ready to go to a hospital or a rehab and get clean. I am also ready to go back to the tailoring job and get my life back on track.” Zion advised the youth to choose their friends wisely and do all they could not to succumb to peer pressure.

He said bad friends will do them no good; rather they lead them to the ‘door of no return.’

He also advised the youth to desist from drugs since it will only have a negative impact on their lives and leave them devastated. He urges the youth to focus on their dreams and be a better person in future.
