‘We’ll kidnap you; won’t allow you go back to Dortmund’ – Akufo-Addo to Otto Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has applauded Black Stars coach Otto Addo for qualifying the team to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Expressing his excitement after Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday night, Nana Akufo-Addo, in a telephone conversation with Otto Addo, said, in jest: “Well done but when you come, we’re going to kidnap you, we’re not going to allow you to go back to Dortmund, so, be very careful when you’re entering you might not be able to leave Ghana again.”

The President, who was celebrating his 78th birthday on the same day, added: “It’s the best possible birthday present I could have had, the news of your qualification for the World Cup, it’s excellent. Congratulations to you and congratulations to all the boys.”

Otto Addo serves as Borussia Dortmund’s first-team assistant coach to Edin Terzić, who had been promoted to interim head coach, following the sacking of head coach Lucien Favre.

He was appointed as an interim coach for the Black Stars ahead of the clash with Nigeria.

It is not clear whether or not he would accept the job on a permanent basis if an offer is made or he would prefer to stay with Dortmund.

Ghana qualified for Qatar 2022 ahead of Nigeria on the away goal rule.

The first leg at the Baba Yara stadium ended in a goalless draw but Ghana played 1-1 in Abuja to book a ticket to their fourth World Cup tournament.
