We’ll vote “skirt and blouse” in 2020 over incumbent MP – Offinsoman warns NPP

Chiefs and people of the Offinso South Constituency have warned of a “skirt and blouse” vote in the 2020 elections should the New Patriotic Party (NPP) allow the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Ben Abdallah Banda to go unopposed in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries, MyNewsGh.com reports.

The youth, led by the Kontihene of Abofour, Nana Osei Darko staged a massive demonstration at Offinso, the capital of the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti region on Thursday soon after the party announced guidelines for the for conduct of election of parliamentary primaries for incumbent MPs

They say there is nothing to show for the three terms that Mr Abdallah has served as Member of Parliament.

“Our MP, Ben Abdallah Banda has shown us that he doesn’t care about Abofour and Offinsoman as a whole; when we invite him over an issue, he tells us that he doesn’t have time and for the twelve years that he has been the MP, he hasn’t completed even one project at Abofour but he is going around saying that, he has done a lot of developmental projects at Abofour, but that is not true”, the Kontihene told the press after the demonstration.

He warned that, if the NPP imposes the MP as its 2020 candidate, they should prepare to lose that seat.

In a related development, Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenteng III has also said the performance of the Member of Parliament for the Offinso South Constituency, Ben Abdallah Banda for the three terms he has served leaves so much to be desired.

The MP had handed over assorted logistics to the Education Directorate, Health Directorate and the Ghana Police Service in the Offinso Municipality of the Ashanti region with his share of the MPs Common Fund at a well-attended durbar on Monday when the chief made the remarks.

Amongst the items were 3 motor bikes for the GES and 15000 exercise books to be distributed to schools, 3 motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service and an ambulance to the Abofour Health Centre to ease health delivery in its adjoining communities.

He also handed over a grader and an excavator provided by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to the Offinso Municipal Assembly for the upgrading and reshaping of feeder roads in the constituency.

The MP climaxed his donation with a sod cutting for the reconstruction of the Offinso New Town Market into a multipurpose storey structure.

But the revered chief said 12 years were too long for the MP to try to compensate his constituents with such petty donations when there is not much to show for his stewardship.

He said the Offinso people have continuously voted for the NPP but they cannot boast of anything that they have benefitted from their loyalty to the ruling party.

But in his response, Hon. Abdallah said he us resolute that, his constituents would vote for him for a fourth term should he emerge as the parliamentary candidate of the NPP in 2020.

He argues that, his party was in opposition for eight out of the twelve years that he has been MP and that explains why his people did not see any massive improvement under his tenure.

Hon. Ben Abdallah Banda is the Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament.
