We’ve Created 2.1 Million Jobs, but More Efforts Needed for Youth Employment – Bawumia

The Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasized the need for more job creation, especially for the youth, despite the government’s efforts over the past seven and a half years.

Dr. Bawumia noted that the government has created 2.1 million jobs since 2017, more than any other administration in the history of the Fourth Republic.

However, he acknowledged that more work is required to address the growing demand for employment opportunities.

“In terms of jobs, we have created 2.1 million. It is still not enough, but it is more than any government in the history of the Fourth Republic. We have to do more to create additional job opportunities for the youth,” Dr. Bawumia said during his campaign tour of the Tema constituencies in the Greater Accra Region.

Outlining his plans to further boost employment, Dr. Bawumia introduced several youth-focused policies his administration would implement if re-elected.

Among these, he announced the construction of a digital hub in Ghana, aimed at serving as a catalyst for job creation in the tech sector. He also pledged to train one million youth in ICT, including senior high school graduates and school dropouts, to provide them with digital job opportunities both in Ghana and abroad.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia revealed plans to incentivize the private sector by introducing a new business-friendly tax regime. This initiative would include tax amnesty and a flat tax rate to stimulate private sector growth and, in turn, generate more jobs.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the government’s commitment to further investing in technical and vocational training, a sector that has seen significant support under the Akufo-Addo administration in recent years.
