Women in Ghana continue to suffer varied forms of domestic violence despite the existence of the Domestic Violence Act of Ghana which prescribes criminal sanctions for perpetrators of domestic violence and offer remedies for domestic violence victims.

Concerns have been raised over the low rate of prosecution of culprits of domestic violence, and governments fail to set up Victims of Domestic violence Support Fund instructed under Section 9 of the Domestic Violence Act 732.

The “Victims of Domestic Violence Support Fund” if established, will seek to support the basic material needs of victims, train the families of victims, rehabilitate and reintegrate victims with families, construct of reception shelters for victims in the regions and districts and training and capacity building of persons connected with the provision of shelter.”
