Mulanje Police has arrested a 20 year old woman for stealing a baby girl at Mulanje Hospital,Dorothy Mponda hails from Bango village,T/A Mabuka in Mulanje.
Repots indicate that the biological mother is Rhoda Charles(16 years) who is originally from Mozambique, she was receiving antenatal treatment at Mpala Health Centre.
Later she was referred to the main hospital. She gave birth on 8th February and was discharged on 10th February 2020. While she was preparing to go, her guarding went to the pharmacy to fetch some prescription pills.
It is said that at this point, the “said” lady fabricated a lie to the mother that she had been sent by the guardian to fetch the baby, as the pharmacist wanted to do final medical check ups on the baby.
When the guardian returned from the pharmacy, she was asked where the baby was, to her astonishment she was ignorant of what had transpired, that was when the mother realised the baby has been stolen. They notified the relavant security personnel.
Fortunately they found her before she could escape from the hospital compound and she is currently in police waiting for a court hearing.
