Work progresses steadily on Bolga-Bawku Road

Work on the Bolgatanga-Bawku Road is progressing steadily with the Brazilian construction firm Queiroz Galvao targeting to complete the construction of the entire stretch by August 2021 MyNewsGh.com has gathered.

Work resumed on the 116km stretch after the project stalled several months due to lack of funds and also for auditing purposes.

Government had announced the securing of an amount of £68 million from the ICBC Standard Bank of the United Kingdom for the continuation of the road project which was awarded to the Brazilian company under former president John Dramani Mahama.

MyNewsGh.com sources say even though the new funding source is yet to release funds for the project, work is vigorously in progress with the contractor currently working within Zebilla Township which falls under Lot 4 of the stretch.

“With our current work schedule, we are hoping to be done in 20 months from now,” a source at the company said.

Mahama awarded contract wrongly- Roads Minister

Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta in August this year, said the processes leading to the award of the Bolgatanga-Bawku road to Brazilian Construction firm Queiroz Galvao under the erstwhile Mahama administration were wrong, a reason that accounted for the stalling of the project.

Former President John Dramani Mahama in July 2016 cut sod for the commencement of work on the 110 kilometre-road from Bolgatanga to Bawku through to Pulmakong in the Upper East Region during a tour dubbed “Accounting to the people”.
