Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of playing politics with COVID-19, saying, “if you think you are advancing the course of your political party via COVID-19 when we all die, whom are you going to govern; let say if you come back to the government, a nation of sick or dead people or ghosts.”
She added that “you may end up being one of the ghosts.”
Speaking on Peace FM Kokroko show, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said “on Monday a lady went to sit on Metro TV to say the disease has killed your Sir John…saa. I felt so sad. Do you know when and where the disease will pop up?. Sir John is a Ghanaian and one of us. No single life should be lost to this virus.”
“Please let’s change our mentality. COVID-19 is not about NDC or NPP; if today NPP leaders have been infected, tomorrow it will be NDC, CPP or PNC. The bottom line is that we are all Ghanaians who have been infected”, said the Communications Minister.
On those accusing the Electoral Commission for facilitating the spread of the disease, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said “they have put in place the measures; Veronica bucket is there, thermometer is there, sanitizers are there. They have asked people to wear mask and observe social distancing, but you put your mask in your pocket and you’ve violated social distancing. How do you blame the EC for that?
She added that “we can write our names without any hitches. Let’s all observe the COVID-19 protocols for our own safety.”
