14-year-old girl beaten, stripped by friends over man in viral video rescued by police

Police said on Tuesday that they are looking into how and why a group of 14-year-old girls in Kira Division Wakiso District beat and stripped a 14-year-old girl. A video of the attack has been widely shared on social media.

In the video that was first posted on TikTok, three girls and a man are seen questioning the victim about claims that she was trying to “steal one of her friends’ man.”

One of her friends, who is said to be in love with the man, can be seen slapping the victim before the rest of the group joins in with sticks. This has been widely criticized, and several lawyers have offered to help the girl.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, who is the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala metropolitan police, said that the police are looking for the people responsible after the mother of the child, who is said to have serious injuries, filed a report.

The case is being handled by police in Kawempe, according to Owoyesigyire, who told reporters that the victim’s mother had told police that the girl had been missing for a while.

“When we looked at her body, we saw that she was in too much pain and needed to see a surgeon to figure out what kind of injuries she had. So, we agreed with her parents that she could stay at our shelter while we waited for the results of the surgery “ASP Owoyesigyire said, “The victim’s statement has been taken down, and she knows who attacked her.”

It is said that on the day she was beaten, one of her friends had called her and asked her to go to her house and help her with something.

“As the video shows, when she got home, a group of girls attacked her, beat her up, and stripped her naked. We have her statement on tape and the names of the people seen in the video. We are working on getting them arrested “ASP Owoyesigyire added.

He said that the police in Kawempe will give the file to the police in Kira Division, which is where the mob attack happened.
