As children from the 90’s grew up, television programming gradually became a norm in many homes especially with the introduction of the Cartoon network and other shows.
Over a period, these shows have captured the hearts of many children with lasting memories and till this very day, many still recognize these shows as classics and an integral part of their childhood.
GhanaWeb takes a look at some of the classic television shows that Ghanaian children enjoyed.
Journey to the West
The popular Chinese TV series, which was first aired in 1986 and 1999 got many kids rushing home from school to watch because of its comedic, fantasy and adventurous feel. The series which became an instant classic was based on a Chinese novel depicting the epic adventure of a Tang dynasty Buddhist monk, Xuan Zang and his associates. Some of which were named; “Shifu,” Till date, the popular theme song of the series is still remembered by many.
Swat Kats
The very popular Swat Kats was set in a world of anthropomorphic felines, two demoted fighter pilots, as they battle evil as high-flying masked vigilantes. The series takes place in the fictional metropolis of Megakat City and was a very personal favourite for many children.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers
The American animated environmentalist television program will forever remain on the minds of children from the 90’s. It depicted how best to save planet earth from pollution and climate change against villains who seek to destroy it. The show became rather personal when one of the characters was named “Kofi” in the television series.
Tintin
Tintin is a popular comic series that depicts a reporter and adventurer who travels around the world with his dog Snowy. Tintin has a sharp intellect, can defend himself, is compassionate, and kind. Through his investigative skills, quick-thinking, and all-around good nature, Tintin is always able to solve the mystery and complete the adventure.
