After four weeks, the government still hasn’t given flood victims a resettlement plan; Ablakwa Samuel Okudzet

The MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is incensed at what seems to be the government’s insistence on moving flood victims due to the controlled controlled spillage of Akosombo Dam.

Over 12,000 people in the North Tongu area are victims, and more than 1,500 houses are affected, according to reports issued by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

The figure is more than 26,000 for all the eight affected districts which also include South and Central Tongu, Anlo, Asougyamang, Ada East, and others.

Meanwhile, after 4 weeks of the cast trophy, it appears the government is not making any effort to relocate the victims whose house cast trophy was pulled down by the floods with the displaced victims still camped in a very unconducive condition.

A situation the North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described as “disrespectful, unconscionable and unacceptable.”
Engaging the press in Mepe on Sunday, Mr. Ablakwa stated that he has yet to witness any efforts on the part of the government to provide dignifying accommodation for the victims.

“I want to say emphatically, that four weeks into this disaster, it is unacceptable that the government has not provided us with a resettlement plan,” he stressed.

“Four weeks of people living in congested classrooms under inhumane conditions and the government remains silent as if it is normal. How long will it take the government to announce a resettlement policy for the VRA-induced floods,”
