Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK to honour Akosua Agyepong, Ofori Amponsah, and Mark Darlington

The upcoming 8th edition of the Ghana Music Awards UK will recognize the significant contributions of some of Ghana’s most influential music figures by conferring special honors.

Akosua Agyepong will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, while Ofori Amponsah and Mark Darlington will be honored with Special Recognition Awards for their outstanding work in the industry.

This year’s awards ceremony will be held in Grand Sapphire Hotel, Croydon, on the 19th of October, 2024.

AKOSUA AGYAPONG

Akosua Agyapong, 54, an iconic figure in Ghanaian highlife music, rose to prominence in the 1990s after being discovered by highlife legend Nana Ampadu. Her career, marked by her unique style, powerful vocals, and infectious energy, quickly made her one of the most celebrated female highlife artistes of her era.

Her first album, “Frema,” was released on January 1, 1990, which had songs such as “Me ye Obaa” that became instant hits, in addition to other tracks, such as “Born again”, “Anan tuo”, and “San be hwe wo mba” among others.

With massive hit catalogues, Akosua’s contributions have played a significant role in shaping Ghana’s music landscape, earning her a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.

OFORI AMPONSAH

Samuel Ofori Amponsah,50, also known by the name Mr. All 4 Real is a prolific singer-songwriter, who found his first taste of success collaborating with the legendary Daddy Lumba on an album in 1999 that put him in the spotlight.

Daddy Lumba introduced him to music lovers at the first-ever Ghana Music Awards which was held in Accra in the year 2000.

Shortly after that, his solo career took off when he released “Otoolege” and “Emmanuella” in the same year.

Amponsah’s smooth vocals and romantic lyrics earned him the nickname “Mr. All 4 Real” and made him a household name in Ghanaian music. His Special Recognition Award reflects his lasting impact on the highlife and hiplife genres.

MARK DARLINGTON

Mark Darlington Osae popularly known as Mark Darlington, is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience, will also be recognized with a Special Recognition Award. His extensive career in music production, artiste management, music advocacy, consultancy, and event management has shaped the careers of many Ghanaian artistes.

Domiciled in the United Kingdom, Mark Darlington is a management member of 2015 UK X-Factor runners-up and International Afropop stars Reggie N Bollie, and an Academy Member of the Ghana Music Awards UK.

He is also the co-founder and currently Chairman of the Ghana Music Alliance, an independent musicians’ organisation with the goal and vision to educate, support, represent and advocate for change within the Ghana Music ‘Industry’, and with a core objective of fighting for effective music rights management (royalties, etc.).

Darlington’s behind-the-scenes work has been crucial in advancing Ghana’s music industry both locally and internationally, making him a key figure in the growth and success of many musicians.
