2 cops arrested, detained for killing 22-year-old man at drinking spot

The Central Regional Police Command has detained two police officers detailed to the Kasoa Divisional Police Station, for shooting and killing a civilian at the JVC Drinking Spot at an area called Kasoa High Tension.

Corporal Samuel Boamah and Lance Corporal Isifu Tahiru were picked up after the incident which occurred on Farmers’ Day, Friday, 6 December 2019 at about 12:30 p.m. in the Awutu Senya East municipality while they were drinking at the spot.

In an interview with Accra 100.5FM’s Opanyin Darko, the Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, DSP Irene Oppong, said there was an altercation between the cops and the deceased, who has been identified as 22-year-old Musah Mohammed before the shooting happened.

“One of the policemen, Boamah, pulled a sidearm, which is a pistol, and he shot the civilian, who is currently dead,” she narrated.

This resulted in chaos at the spot and attracted passersby.

A police reinforcement team was deployed to the area and they arrested their two colleagues to assist with investigations.

DSP Oppong said the police suspects are in the custody of the same police station to which they were detailed and are under investigation for murder.
