Essi was named the 2023 uncovered artiste of the year at the Ghana Music Awards UK.

The ceremony, which took place at the Royal Regency in London on Saturday, October 7, 2023 was attended by music enthusiasts, fellow artistes, and industry insiders.

The Ghana Music Awards UK Uncovered artiste of the Year accolade acknowledges the exceptional contributions of the ultimate winner to the music industry during the reviewed year, and the  ‘ MAMA AFRICA ‘ crooner  met the criteria

Elizabeth Maame Esi Awortwe (born February 20, 1999), better known by her stage name Essi, is a Ghanaian Soul Afro-Pop and live musician from Komenda in Ghana’s Central Region.

After Junior High, she attended St. Mary’s Senior High school, where she studied Visual Arts. She just graduated at the University of Ghana, legon.

Her music career kicked off when she was named winner of the second edition of TV3’s Talented Kids in 2012, and runner-up for the first edition of Born Stars in 2013.

Even before then, she garnered a considerable audience whenever she performed at schools.

She’s performed on a slew of major musical stages in Ghana. According to her, her greatest achievement was performing in London with the famed Daddy Lumba.

She has also collaborated with notable producers such as DatBeatGod, Ivan Beatz, Willsbeatz, Kwame Yeboah, Peewezel, Freeman, B2 of DopeNation, and others.

“After talented kids, my life revolved around education, recording at home, and doing covers of other songs. In addition to the covers, I released my song, ‘Dreams’  in 2015 which was written by the late Castro” she said.

Essi released her maiden 14-track album titled  G.O.O.D tape Vol. 1 last year with most of the songs projecting Ghana’s indigenous highlife genre, with others championing Afrobeats which is rocking parts of the world.

Interestingly, most of Essi’s songs on the album were recorded live with her new band called Pacs Band – keeping the melodies and rhythmic tones fresh to the listener regardless of the moment.

Meanwhile, the album features The Pacs Band (for the live recordings), Kelvyn Boy, Frenzy Offixial, Trap Boi Flame, and Prince Bright of Buk Bak fame.

Aside from music, Essi is also into makeup artistry, skincare, and hair styling. Another one of her many talents.
