Galamsey Fight:  Chief threatens to kill Catechist of the Catholic Church

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched full investigations into allegations of threats of death on Catechist of the Catholic Church at Danso, a farming community in the Bosome Freho District.

Nana Kyei, a former Assemblyman and opinion leader allege he has received death threats from the Odikro of the area, Nana Opoku Kyei Ababio over attempts to stop illegal mining in the area.

Confirming the development on Kumasi-based Fox FM Morning Drive, the accused told host, Sir John, ‘ one Kyei says that I will kill him and has reported me to police. The Regional Police Commander has referred the case to the Regional Crime so this morning, we’re going to meet the Regional Crime Commander. But let’s put it on record that, I’ve not said I’ll kill him. I don’t know where I made such a statement.’

It comes after the former Assemblyman and some residents demonstrated and accused Odekro and his subjects of engaging in illegal mining activities in the area.

However, Nana Kyei Ababio has denied direct involvement in all the illegal mining activities in that enclave.

‘I can confidently tell that those doing mining are government officials and it is not galamsey. It is large-scale mining that is benefiting us. They have given us mechanized borehole water. And this is all that I can tell you.’ the Odikro of Danso, Nana Opoku Kyei said.
