Girl, 10, drowns in Gordon’s Bay

A 10-year-old girl drowned at a beach in Gordon’s Bay on Saturday.

ER24 paramedics were alerted shortly after 11:0 and found Gordon’s Bay medical officials and lifeguards at the scene.

According to ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak, it is understood that the girl and two friends were swimming in the ocean.

“The two friends apparently alerted bystanders that she did not came out of the water with them.”

She was later found, and paramedics initiated CPR and rushed her to a nearby hospital.

“Sadly, she was declared dead shortly after arrival at [the] hospital,” Vermaak added.
