All pupils entering kindergarten and primary one in the 2019/2020 academic year will undergo a mandatory medical screening during admission.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is conducting the exercise in collaboration with the Education Service and other partners.

The screening which will begin Tuesday, is aimed at “the early detection of actual and potential health problems of the school-age child for early referral, care and management.”

A joint statement from the Health and Education Ministries, the GES and GHS assured parents that “no child will be denied admission basis of their health condition or status.”

“All caregivers and parents of the target children are entreated to be in attendance with their ward’s Child Health record Books to support the screening exercise and provide the requisite information,” the statement said.
