Since Ghana’s return to multiparty democracy in 1992, election cycles in the country have been heralded and accentuated by campaign songs which extol the virtues of their sponsors or emphasize the achievements and their suitability for political office.
The right kind of song, with the right message at the right time, can definitely bring about change.
Campaign songs have become a big deal in Ghana and recently a few have emerged ahead of the December polls.
‘Aputoor’ and ‘Mahama Afa’ are the latest campaign songs.
In the ‘Aputoo’ music video, the artist, one Nana Kwadwo chastises the NDC leader John Mahama for failing Ghanaians and asking Ghanaians to vote against him.
He commends Nana Akufo Addo for government’s flagship programme Free SHS especially and says he deserves four more years to do more.
In the ‘Mahama Afa’ video, Kojo Bee raps about all the achievements of the NDC and says John Mahama will win the 2020 election.
