The United States of America will Wednesday, January 20, 2021 make history by swearing in its 46th President, Joseph R. Biden and a first African-American Vice President, Kamala Harris.
The two Democrats were duly elected after a November 3, 2020 election with outgoing president, Donald Trump refusing to concede the outcome.
Both Biden and Kamala’s inauguration ceremony will take place on Capitol Hill in a rather unprecedented ceremony and heightened security due to riots poked by supporters of Donald Trump.
Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump will depart the White House to his resort in Mar-A-Lago in Florida with Mr Trump earlier indicating he will not be in attendance for the inauguration ceremony.
Outgoing Vice President, Mike Pence on his part will be in attendance at the ceremony with former presidents George Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama all tipped to be in attendance.
Joe Biden on his part will be inheriting a country that is engulfed by a deep political divide and a spike in coronavirus case and deaths for the US. The US currently has reached a 400,000-death threshold in the wake of the outbreak.
The inauguration event is scheduled to start after 10:30am local time (15:30 GMT).
