Man arrested for having Too ‘Many Wives’

Police in Perth have arrested a 48-year-old man for having more than one wife.

A man has been jailed for having ‘too many wives’.

Police say the man will have to go to court because he has two wives. People have said that he wasn’t divorced from his first wife when he married his second wife in July 2020.

Aside from the second woman he married in July 2020, the suspect is said to have married a third woman last year after separating from his second wife without getting a divorce.

The Australian Federal Police began investigating the man after his first wife, who lives in the eastern states, contacted his second wife via social media and told her about his alleged cheating.

They say the second marriage was not legal in Australia because the man was still legally married to his first wife.

There are no allegations that the third marriage was a form of bigamy. He is accused of saying he was “never legally married” and signing a document saying he had no legal reason not to marry.

In a statement, he said: “This type of lie and crime has a long-lasting and damaging effect on the victims and their families, and the AFP will ensure that such allegations are fully investigated.
