Man murders 55-year-old mother at Aboabo

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in Aboabo, a surburb of the Tamale Metropolis in the Northern Region for allegedly murdering his 55-year-old mother in her home.

Osman Abdul Moomen reportedly killed his mother in her room Tuesday morning at about 10:30am and fled to take refuge in a nearby forest.

His mother was found with deep cuts from the impact of a cooking pot which was constantly hit against her head.

It is still unclear yet what necessitated this act.

Moomen was discovered by youth of the community who chased after him and handed him over to the police.

Tamale Metropolitan Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Mick Omari Boakye, says the attention of the police was also drawn to the case by the assemblyman for the Aboabo Electoral area.

The youth of the area have since the incident however, refused to allow for the body to be moved to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary and for a pathologist who was dispatched to the murder scene to conduct a postmortem on the body.

According to ASP Omari Boakye, the area is a predominantly Muslim community that does not allow postmortem on their dead relatives.

“We spoke to them but they will not allow us,” he said.
