Natural And Home Remedies For Curing Cough

As soon as the cause of your cough is identified and you have ruled out any severe underlying medical conditions that need to be treated, symptoms of cough often may be treated or cured with natural or home remedies.

According to MedicineNet, natural and home remedies for curing cough include:

1. Stay hydrated: Consume lots of water to thin mucus.

2. Inhale steam: Try to have a hot shower, or boil water and pour it into a bowl, face the bowl (stay at least a foot away), place a towel over the back of your head to form a tent, and inhale. Stop at any time if you begin to feel uncomfortable. However, avoid doing this if the cough is caused by asthma, as steam may make symptoms worsen.

3. Saltwater gargle clears mucus from the throat.

4. Use an extra pillow to raise your head at night.

5. Avoid smoking and also don’t get exposed to secondhand smoke.

6. Avoid inhaled irritants including dust, perfumes, or pollutants.

7. Use honey. It can be used alone in adults and children over 1 year of age and serve as a cough suppressant.

8. Ginger tea soothes throat inflammation.

9. Mint: Often taken as a tea, it helps to loosen mucus in the lungs.

10. Licorice root acts as an expectorant.

11. Turmeric may help ease digestive issues and can help if a cough is brought on by acid reflux.

12. Chicken soup may ease symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections.
