Opposition parties call for fresh elections in Nigeria

Three opposition parties are calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the just-ended elections and rerun them due to widespread irregularities in the elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) made the announcement at a press conference in the capital, Abuja, BBC.com reports.

They raised concerns about how the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) handled the electronic voting system.

“I demand that this sham of an election be cancelled, and we call on INEC to conduct fresh elections within the window period provided by the electoral act,” Julius Abure, chairman of the Labour Party, said.
