Archbishop of Paris, the French capital, Michel Aupetit has requested to resign in a letter transmitted to the Holy Father, Pope Francis.
The French daily Le Figaro reports that he offered to quit in the wake of media reports about a relationship he had with a woman.
A source close to the archdiocese confirmed the request on Friday saying: “The archbishop has put his fate in the hands of the pope and has offered to leave if that is judged to be for the best of the diocese.”
The French daily disclosed that Aupetit’s now-controversial relationship took place in 2012.
