Support Government To Contain Covid-19; Npp Germany Chair Tells Ghanaians

I want to first of all appreciate the President of the Republic of Ghana, HE Nana Addo-Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo for his commitment in putting up measures to deal with the deadly Corona virus pandemic in  Ghana. Indeed the entire world has been badly hit by this global pandemic affecting thousands of people across the nations of the world.

Ghana couldn’t be exempted from this ailment due to the constant movement of people in the wake of globalization. So far over 380,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 with more than 16,000 deaths globally. Ghana has recorded 52 cases with 2 deaths and over 500 contacts traced.

However, it is worthy to note that the Ghana government has shown a high level of commitment in ensuring that the Ghanaian people are protected from the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Soon after the country detected a case of the virus, the President announced an emergency fund of $100million to resource the Ghana health service to handle all emerging cases. The suspension of public gathering and the subsequent closure of all the borders of the country as well as the enhancement of public education on the ways of stopping the spread of the virus. The passage of the Restriction Bill confirms the readiness of the government to go to any extent to protect the Ghanaian people from this pandemic.

Despite the unrelenting effort of the government to deal with the spread of COVID-19 among Ghanaians it is incumbent on the Ghanaian people to also support and comply with the directives of the government in all it forms to protect the citizenry from getting infected in larger numbers.

We want to call on the clergy, health professionals, media, political parties, traditional leaders, NGOs, traders and all stakeholders to fully join the war against this common enemy of COVID-19. All stakeholders must support the government with their resources both human and material to augment the effort of the government of Ghana to deal with the menace.

Again, we want to continue to call on all the religious bodies to continue to pray to God to show Ghana mercy. In this difficult times we need the grace and mercies of the Lord to see us through. This one too shall surely pass. Let all Ghanaians bury our ethnic and political differences to combat this pandemic. Everyone must take precaution by constantly washing their hands and more frequently use alcohol based Sanitizer at all times whiles keeping social distance of at least 2 meters. This is the only way to break the cycle of community spread.

It is our firm believe that as the President HE Nana Akuffo Addo continues to show greater concern and commitment to contain the spread of the Corona Virus the citizens must adhere to his directives and fully comply in order for us to collectively win this battle. The battle is still the Lord’s.
