The newly appointed Mayor of the Techiman South Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Kwaku Adjei-Mensah, on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Techiman Traditional Council as part of a familiarization visit to mark the beginning of his tenure.
The visit, which took place at the palace of the Paramount Chief of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, was aimed at strengthening ties between the Assembly and traditional authority, while reaffirming the Mayor’s commitment to mutual respect and collaboration.
Addressing the media after meeting with the traditional leaders, Hon. Adjei-Mensah explained the vital role of traditional leadership in the governance structure and called on all political actors to remain respectful
According to him, it is incumbent upon politicians to serve the people and the chiefs within their localities, as chiefs hold traditional authority that must be respected at all times. He cautioned against dragging chiefs into partisan matters, urging members of the Techiman South NDC to exercise discretion.
“I strongly believe that as politicians, our primary duty is to serve our people, and most importantly, serve the chiefs within our jurisdiction. The chiefs are the true custodians of our lands and hold traditional authority that must always be respected.
“It is unacceptable for any political party to bring the names of our chiefs into disrepute under any circumstance. I urge all members of the Techiman South NDC not to involve our National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, in matters that may appear to show disrespect.” He said
He continued, “I am confident that our National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has always accorded the Seikwa Traditional Council the utmost respect. Therefore, he should not be associated with any issue that could be seen as disrespectful to the Techiman Traditional Council.”
Hon. Adjei-Mensah used the opportunity to pledge to work closely with the Techiman Traditional Council and take steps to resolve any existing issues between the party and traditional leaders. The Mayor further made an appeal to the Techiman Traditional Council and a personal commitment to serve with humility and respect.
“Going forward, I trust that the Techiman South NDC will maintain a respectful and humble posture toward the Traditional Council so that we may receive their blessings and guidance in our pursuit of good governance. From today, I will take urgent steps to resolve any misunderstandings or issues between the Techiman Traditional Council and our party.”
“We will continue to avail ourselves to the Council whenever necessary, and I humbly plead with our revered chiefs to treat us as their own children, guiding and advising us as we work to implement the policies of our great party for the success of the Reset Agenda.
“Let it be known to all members of the Techiman South NDC that I, Kwaku Adjei-Mensah, Mayor of Techiman South, pledge to respect and serve the throne of Ohene Ameyaw IV and his council. I encourage every member of our party to do the same.”He said.
The Traditional Council welcomed the Mayor warmly and expressed optimism about working together for the continued development and unity of Techiman South.
