A petrol tanker flipped and crashed into multiple stores causing a huge explosion and fire in Long Island, New York.
The tanker, reportedly carrying around 42,000 litres of petrol, crashed into a vacant furniture store and a beverage store in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The building was immediately engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.
“When I came here, there was fire everywhere, the streets, the tanker, the two buildings, and when I looked down Sunrise Highway, there was fire coming out of seven or eight manhole covers,” Rockville Centre Fire Department Chief James Avondet told reporters on scene. “It’s one of the worst things I’ve seen in my 47-year career.”
The resultant blaze reportedly took 150 firefighters to extinguish.
According to local officials, the driver of the tanker and three firefighters were hurt but no casualties were reported.
