Woman arrested for inflicting cutlass wounds on son

A 26-year-old woman, who inflicted cutlass wounds on her 10-year-old biological son, is in the grips of the Obuasi Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

Mariam Issah, a resident of Boete, a suburb of Obuasi, was arrested following a report by a neighbour who stumbled upon the incident, rescued the boy, and rushed him to the Bryant Mission Hospital at Obuasi.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madam Mavis Owiredu, Obuasi Divisional Commander of DOVVSU, told newsmen at Obuasi that, the victim’s mother in the act cut his fingers and some parts of the legs.

She said the boy’s rescuer alleged to the police that, the boy had repeatedly been going through such ordeal in the hands of his mother.

DSP Owiredu said the boy also confirmed that his mother has been maltreating him daily at home.

She appealed to well-wishers to assist foot the hospital bills and treatment of the boy, who is currently on admission at the hospital.

Dr. Haruna Yalim, the Senior Physician Assistant at the Hospital, said the boy was in a stable condition.
