20 learner graduate from Maratha College as leaders lament fake Christianity

Maratha College of Theology has successfully hosted its fourteenth graduation ceremony in Techiman, marking another important achievement in its goal of equipping faithful ministers and devoted followers of Christ.

Held in the forecourt of Techiman Bonokyempem Hall, the occasion celebrated 20 students who completed their diploma and bachelor’s programmes in Biblical studies.

In a conversation with our reporter, the Director of the institution, Apostle Prof. Stephen Sawiri, revealed that the college is dedicated to bringing people closer to God’s Kingdom. He expressed deep concern that, even though Christians constitute around 60% of Ghana’s population, the character and teachings of Jesus are often not evident in the everyday conduct of many who profess the faith.

He pointed out with regret that the behaviour of some believers is actually repelling others from Christianity instead of drawing them in.

“Today marks our fourteenth graduation since we established the school in Techiman. A total of 20 graduates have successfully completed their studies, with some receiving degrees while others earned diplomas. “The mission of the school is to draw people closer to Christ and advance the Kingdom of God. As Christians, we should let our light shine so that others may witness the goodness of God. Sadly, many claim to be Christians, yet the lives they lead do not reflect their faith.” He stated

Apostle Prof. Stephen Sawiri also highlighted that a growing number of Ghanaians are turning away from the church because certain leaders operate their ministries in ways that depart significantly from Christ’s example. He explained that the college exists to properly instruct people on authentic Christian living and effective soul-winning for God’s Kingdom.

“Many people are losing faith in the church due to the way some individuals run churches in the country, which is far from the teachings of Christ. This school seeks to educate people about what is expected of true believers and how to win souls for the Kingdom of God.”

On his part, Rev Dr Bright Boahen exhorted the graduates to remain steadfast in the pure teachings of the Gospel and to place the winning of souls at the centre of their ministry as servants of the Lord.

He encouraged them to live in such a way that their example attracts others to the faith and to boldly oppose anything that impedes the growth of God’s Kingdom.

“I have charged the graduates to hold fast to the true teachings of the Gospel. They should make soul-winning their primary focus, as this is the mandate of every Christian, especially ministers of God. “Graduates should lead exemplary lives that inspire others to join the church. They must stand against any negativity that hinders the progress of the Kingdom of God. I have also urged them not to dilute the Gospel but to preach it in its fullness, fearlessly sharing the truth with others.

He further reminded the new ministers that their strength is derived from God alone, calling them to maintain a consistent prayer life and to depend entirely on the Lord for wisdom and protection as they go forth to proclaim His Word.

“They should always remember that their strength comes from God. Therefore, they must remain prayerful in all their endeavors and rely on God for guidance and protection as they step out as ministers of His Word.”
