Agrico Hub empowers 60 youth in Bono East through practical ATVET training

Agrico Hub, in collaboration with Social Enterprise Ghana and supported by the WUSC and Mastercard Foundation ACTIVATE Program, has commenced a transformative three-month Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program.

Agrico Hub, located in Techiman, the Bono East Regional Capital, is a Business and Digital Innovation Hub dedicated to empowering early-stage entrepreneurs and Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs) in Agribusiness, Trade, Technical and Vocational Services, and related industries. The hub plays a pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurship and driving digital transformation through innovative business development strategies and cutting-edge digital technology solutions.

The three-month program is aimed at equipping 60 young people in the Bono East Region with hands-on skills in agriculture and technology while preparing them to start their own businesses or gain employment.

The initiative, which is currently underway, focuses on providing practical training in Poultry Production, Cashew Processing, and Software Development, each area accommodating 20 participants. The ACTIVATE program is designed to combine technical expertise with entrepreneurial coaching, empowering participants with both employable skills and the ability to start and manage their own businesses.

With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, the cohort comprises 90% women and 5% persons with disabilities (PWDs), which underscores the program’s commitment to gender equity and social inclusion in economic development.

In an interview with our reporter, the Hub Manager, Mrs. Eunice Baah, explained that her organization aims to help young people secure sustainable livelihoods through agriculture and technology, hence, the ACTIVATE program.

“We believe agriculture and technology can create pathways to sustainable livelihoods for young people, especially women. Through this program, we are building a new generation of agripreneurs and tech innovators who can drive development in their communities,” she said.

She further disclosed that, following the successful completion of the current program, another cohort will be launched as they aim to train more youth through the ACTIVATE program.

Participants who successfully complete the training will receive a Certificate of Competence and access to business startup support, including coaching, mentorship, and potential funding opportunities.

This initiative aligns with national and global efforts to tackle youth unemployment, promote gender inclusion, and boost the agriculture value chain through innovation and capacity building.
