Assassination Plot: Court Remands Man Over False Claims Against Mahama

The Adenta Circuit Court has ordered the detention of Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, a 30-year-old laundry attendant, for allegedly peddling false information sow discord and panic.

Razzaq purportedly disseminated a video on his TikTok account, breakingnewsghana, falsely accusing two military officers, Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph, of plotting to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.

Led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, the prosecution asserts that Razzaq’s incendiary claims prompted the Ghana Police Service to spring into action, culminating in his apprehension on January 21, 2026, at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.

In his statement, Razzaq conceded to creating the video, but insisted he was merely reacting to a social media post, having “chanced upon” the inflammatory allegations. However, he failed to furnish investigators with the source of the dubious claim.

Razzaq is set to appear in court again on February 9, 2026.
