Government Urges AGI to Spearhead Industrial Transformation- Julius Debrah

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has issued a clarifying call to the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), urging them to spearhead the country’s industrialization drive.

Speaking at the investiture of the newly elected AGI President and executive members in Accra, Debrah emphasized the private sector’s pivotal role in propelling economic growth.

Debrah challenged the association to transcend conventional boundaries and champion innovative endeavors that will catapult Ghana into a manufacturing hub within the sub-region.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive business environment, assuring that “our goal is to ensure that the Ghanaian industrialist is equipped to compete globally. Government will continue to provide the supportive environment needed to turn our industrial dreams into reality. Government is therefore streamlining policies and regulations, provide infrastructure, enhancing energy, transport, and digital networks to support industrial growth.”

The newly elected AGI President, Dr. Kofi Nsiah-Poku, outlined a bold vision for inclusive industrial growth, aimed at transforming Ghana’s economic landscape.

He highlighted the “complex landscape” of obstacles facing AGI members, including high energy costs, credit constraints, and trade competitiveness challenges.

Despite these hurdles, Dr. Nsiah-Poku emphasized that these challenges present opportunities for innovation.

“Within these challenges lie immense opportunities for us to rethink our strategies and emerge stronger,” he stated. His administration’s agenda prioritizes support for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), advocating for concessionary credit facilities and capacity building for industry players and women entrepreneurs.

The AGI aims to empower local manufacturers to scale up operations and expand market reach by securing lower interest rates and flexible repayment terms.
