I never said Kwasi Appiah should have known better – Henry Asante Twum

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has quashed reports saying he chided Blacks Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah saying he was supposed to know better after the former Black stars gaffer was angrily demanding for his unpaid salary arrears.

“The GFA does not pay the coach – it’s the state that pays the coach,” Twum told the BBC.

“The GFA is the employer of the head coach of the national team but his salary is paid by the state. He [Appiah] wrote to the GFA [demanding his outstanding salaries and bonuses] and we forwarded his letter to the [sports] ministry.

According to him, those reports are false and frivolous hence he was misquoted by BBC.

“I was misquoted by BBC ,I never said Kwesi Appiah should have known better. I want to place on record that GFA doesn’t pay salaries of coaches ,it is the state which pays salaries of Black Stars coaches,’’ Henry Asante Twum told Gideon Okyere Anim (Gattuso) on All Sports on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

He further stressed that, the GFA is committed to liaise with the Sports Ministry to settle the salary issues with Kwesi Appiah.

Former Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah has written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) demanding his unpaid salary arrears.

Appiah is owed five months salary and one match winning bonus.

With his salary believed to be $35,000, the FA and the Sports Ministry must cough up $175,000 to settle him.
