The entertainment editor of Daily Guide newspaper, George Clifford Owusu, has received recognition for his contributions to the growth of the music industry in Ghana.
At the maiden edition of the Global Music and Creative Entrepreneurship Awards (MUSIGLO GMCE Awards 2024), organised by the Musicians Organization Global (MUSIGLO), he received the esteemed title of Best Entertainment journalist/blogger of the year.
This honour honours Clifford’s exceptional achievements to the music business as well as his steadfast dedication to advancing Ghanaian music via his album BEATWAVES.
He was given a plague and a citation that said, “Over the past 20 years, you have effectively and continuously promoted Ghanaian music and the arts through your ‘Beatwaves’ media platform. This award is in recognition of your invaluable contribution to the growth of the Ghanaian music industry”.
George Clifford Owusu, who believes his inclusion in the awards, is as a result of his hard work, stressed that Ghanaian music has a bright future.
He however, expressed profound gratitude to God and management of Daily Guide and staff for the immense support he has had since joining the news paper.
The awards ceremony which was held at the Prestige Suit Hotel, Osu in Accra, was attended by a number of personalities including Switzerland Ambassador to Ghana Her Excellency, Simone Giger and stakeholders of the musicians, among others.
Some of the notable winners at the event included Switzerland Ambassador to Ghana Her Excellency, Simone Giger (Impact Achievement Award), Abraham Quarmyne (lifetime achievement award), Nana Aboagye Dacosta (lifetime achievement award), Rev. Mensah Bonsu (Lifetime Achievement Award), Obuoba J.A Adofo (Lifetime Achievement Award), Methodist Evangel Choir (Best Ghanaian Evangelism Choir), Ghana Adventist Singing Groups Association (GASGA) Best Ghanaian Christian Singing group, Bright Aheto (best choral music promoter, Rev. Dr Augustine Adu-Anane (Best music industry financier) and Mrs Rev. Diana Hammond ( Best Female Gospel Artiste).
Others are Abdul Aziz Sungumo Haruna (MUSIGLO Loyal Leadership award), Ben Marfo (MUSIGLO Loyal Leadership), Evans Gyamfi Fredua (MUSIGLO Loyal Leadership), Joseph Bedu-Addo (MUSIGLO Loyal Leadership award), Madam Felicia Oteng (MUSIGLO Loyal Leadership award), Evangelist Agnes Olu Martins (MUSIGLO Loyal Leadership award), Dr Getrude Kafui Boamah (Lifetime Achievement Award) and Rev. Esther Gayovo (MUSIGLO Loyal Leadership award), among others.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, the Switzerland Ambassador to Ghana Her Excellency, Simone Giger, applauded the captains of industry gathered and encouraged them to pay attention to the music industry in view of the wealth and job creation potential of the sector.
She promised to support the music industry as well as its stakeholders.
