NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY AUTHORITY CAUTIONS DRIVERS DURING THE RAINING SEASON

The Corporate Affairs Manager for National Road safety Authority, Eastern Region, Rosalyn Arthur has cautioned drivers to take precautionary measures while driving in adverse weather conditions, particularly in this raining season.

According to her, drivers should ensure their car tyres are in good condition to avoid skidding off the road. The Tyre condition determines the effectiveness of the brakes and prevents hydroplaning.

The corporate Affairs Manager continue to plead with drivers to limit their speeding when driving on wet roads in other to allow the vehicle respond quickly when break is applied.

She also cautioned drivers to have a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them Incase of any situation to increase the reaction time.

In addition to the above mentioned, Miss Rosalyn added the following precautions..

1. Maintain proper tire tread: Ensure your tires have good tread depth to prevent hydroplaning.
2. Reduce speed: Slow down to maintain better control and reaction time in wet conditions.
3. Increase following distance: Leave extra space between you and the vehicle ahead to allow for longer braking distances.
4. Use headlights: Keep your headlights on, even during daylight, to improve visibility for yourself and others.
5. Brake gently: Apply brakes with gentle, steady pressure to avoid skidding.
6. Avoid puddles: Steer clear of standing water, as it can be deeper than it appears and potentially cause hydroplaning.
7. Keep windows clear: Use your windshield wipers to maintain clear visibility.
8. Watch for slick spots: Be cautious on painted road markings, metal surfaces, and oily patches, as they can be extra slippery when wet.
9. Stay informed: Check weather forecasts before traveling and be aware of any flood warnings or road closures in your area.

She advised drivers their lights when it’s raining, to enable visibility.

” Wipers must be changed frequently and also road users must stay informed by the Meteorological agency before stepping out” She ended.
