NDC’s Abdul-Wahab Africa Zion warns Against NPP’s Vote- buying Tactics

The Agona West Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul-Wahab Africa Zion, voiced strong criticisms against the vote-buying tactics employed by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Mr. Chris Arthur, during a campaign in Agona Swedru.

He spoke passionately about these issues while addressing supporters at a rally held as part of former President John Dramani Mahama’s visit to the area.

Abdul-Wahab accused Mr. Arthur of attempting to sway voters through the distribution of items such as street lights, sewing machines, hairdryers, and other freebies. According to Abdul-Wahab, these items are being used to “hoodwink” voters, a strategy he believes undermines the integrity of the electoral process.

Highlighting a recent press conference held by concerned assembly members, he described the distribution of these goods by the NPP candidate as “unethical, illegal and unfortunate,” explaining that these items are the people’s rightful resources, which should have been provided as part of the constituency’s development and infrastructure.

He advised voters to accept the items, as they are rightfully theirs, but urged them to remember the bigger picture.

Drawing a parallel with the recent by-election in Assin North, Abdul-Wahab reminded voters how constituents there accepted similar gifts from the NPP, yet ultimately cast their votes for the NDC candidate. He encouraged the people of Agona West to take a similar approach, as a way to send a clear message to politicians who believe that last-minute handouts can make up for years of inadequate governance.

“You don’t mismanage the economy, bringing untold hardships and suffering to the people, run a nepotistic government, and take from the people, only to come back with pittances a few days before elections expecting to be rewarded,” he told the crowd.

Abdul-Wahab urged voters to look beyond short-term enticements and focus on leadership that is committed to long-term prosperity and true development. He emphasized that an NDC government led by John Mahama would bring genuine improvements to the economy, education, healthcare, and job creation, which he said would bring lasting change to the lives of Ghanaians.

As the 2024 elections approach, the NDC’s messages of accountability, transparency, and meaningful development resonate with voters eager for change. The speech by Abdul-Wahab Africa Zion adds to a growing chorus of voices within the NDC calling for voters to make their decisions based on policies and principles rather than temporary giveaways.
