John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, believes that the current parliamentary impasse in Ghana could have been resolved outside of court.
Speaking during his fellowship with the clergy in Kumasi today, Mahama emphasized the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving political conflicts.
He suggested that a more collaborative approach would have been beneficial for all parties involved, particularly given the contentious legal battle surrounding Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.
Mahama’s comments come amid a Supreme Court decision on the matter, scheduled for tomorrow, November 12, 2024. According to him, such disputes should ideally be settled through dialogue rather than judicial intervention. He stated, “I think that it is something we can solve politically. The solution is not legal because the Supreme Court can make a decision and parliament would say we are not under you, we are a separate arm of government.
Viewing John mahama as former President of Ghana, Mahama’s experience in politics and governance lends weight to his opinion. His commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the impasse reflects his broader vision for Ghana’s development, which prioritizes stability, economic growth, and job creation.
