Solid Foundation Educational Complex calls on parents to support art education

The Administrator of Solid Foundation Educational Complex, Pastor Samuel Osei, has called on parents to encourage and support their children’s participation in art classes, stressing that creative learning provides a strong foundation for pre-vocational skills and STEM education.

He made this appeal during the school’s 8th Graduation Ceremony, which promoted learners across four levels, from Pre-school to Early Grade, Early Grade to Upper Primary, Upper Primary to Junior High, and those who had just completed this year’s BECE.

The event was held on the theme “Rebranding and Repositioning the Past, Present, and the Future.” The school is scheduled to vacate after the ceremony and reopen on September 2, 2025.

Pastor Osei explained that the vision of Solid Foundation Educational Complex extends beyond academic excellence to the holistic development of learners. He noted that extra-curricular activities, particularly art, have been introduced to align with the new curriculum’s emphasis on STEM and pre-vocational training.

“At Solid Foundation, we are not only focused on academics. We also seek to nurture talents through extra-curricular activities. The new curriculum prioritizes STEM and pre-vocational skills, and we believe it is vital to give our learners a solid start in these areas. That is why we have introduced art classes, to help them appreciate the importance of creativity at an early age.” he explained.

He encouraged parents to play an active role by supporting their children’s involvement in these programs, pointing out that art education contributes significantly to skills development and future career prospects.

On the academic front, the headteacher, Mr. Godfred Amanfo Takyi, highlighted the school’s progress in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He recalled that last year, all 20 candidates presented by the school passed successfully, achieving grades between Aggregate 7 and Aggregate 18.

“This year, we also presented 20 candidates. Although WAEC has yet to release the results, we are confident that the performance will surpass last year’s.” Mr. Takyi stated.

Looking ahead, Pastor Osei said he is determined to make Solid Foundation Educational Complex the leading Science and Mathematics basic school in Techiman. Drawing on his three decades of experience in education, he stressed the importance of building strong foundations in Maths and Science, adding that learners who excel in these areas adapt more easily to any career path.

“Our vision is to position Solid Foundation as the best Science and Mathematics school in Techiman. With the right foundation in these subjects, learners are better prepared to succeed in their chosen careers and can easily integrate into different fields.” he said.

Meanwhile, some learners also added their voice to the call for greater support for art education. One learner urged parents not to overlook the creative side of learning, noting that art has the potential to provide livelihoods in the future.

“What we are doing in our art classes is just the beginning. It can propel us to become designers, architects, and professionals in the future. Parents should not only focus on the theory side of education but also the practical aspects, and art is an important part of that.”
