Techiman North MP launches second phase of ‘Operation Light Up’ to brighten communities

The Office of the Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in collaboration with the Techiman North District Assembly, has commenced the second phase of Operation Light Up to enhance security, support local businesses, and improve night-time visibility across the district.

The second phase, which started yesterday, will see the installation of 300 new street bulbs in communities across Techiman North, adding to the 400 bulbs provided under the first phase of the project two years ago.

The District Chief Executive for Techiman North, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, explained that Operation Light Up is a continuous effort to improve safety and visibility in communities across the district.

“Our Member of Parliament, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, launched “Operation Light Up” two years ago, during which 400 bulbs were installed across the Techiman North Constituency.

“During her recent tour in the constituency, she realized that some places still needed lights, as some of the old bulbs were no longer functioning, while other poles had no bulbs at all. Today, we are launching the second phase of Operation Light Up, where a total of 300 bulbs will be distributed across the constituency. In addition to the new 300 bulbs, plans have been put in place to maintain and repair existing ones, and those that are beyond repair will be replaced with new ones.” He said.

He disclosed that as part of the second phase of Operation Light Up, streetlights on the main ECOWAS Trans Road are undergoing maintenance to ensure the safety of motorists and other road users.

Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry for the Operation Light Up initiative and assured residents of Techiman North whose communities are yet to receive lighting that they will be attended to soon.

“Streetlights on the main ECOWAS Trans Road, Techiman to Kintampo and Techiman to Wa are also being maintained to ensure our roads remain bright and safe for motorists and other road users. Operation Light Up is here to stay, and all communities in the district will soon have their fair share.

”As the District Chief Executive, I want to thank our Member of Parliament for her commitment and determination to uplift the lives of her constituents.” He stated.

Some Assembly Members in Techiman North have expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, following the launch of the second phase of Operation Light Up.

They disclosed that traders in the area had been particularly affected by the prolonged darkness and said the initiative would bring much-needed relief to local businesses.

“We are very grateful to our Member of Parliament, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and our District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, for what they have done for us. We lived in darkness for years, but when we informed our MP, she came to our aid through Operation Light Up.

“The traders in this area have suffered greatly due to the darkness, and I strongly believe that with this intervention from Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, they will be relieved and happy.” They told our reporter.

Some residents of Tuobodom who spoke with our reporter also expressed profound joy and relief following the restoration of streetlights in their community. According to them, the area had been in darkness for the past five years, affecting both social and economic activities.

“I am very happy today because, for the past five years, we have been sleeping in darkness in this area, and it has affected almost all our activities. We are therefore grateful to Hon. Lawyer Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson for this intervention.” A resident told our reporter.

A mobile money merchant in the community also shared how the lack of lighting exposed her business to risks.

“We suffered a lot due to the lack of lighting. For me, as a mobile money merchant, some people even tried to patronize my services with fake currencies. Because the place was dark, it was difficult to detect such notes. Now that the lights are on, it will help me identify them easily and will support my business.”
