The youth of Garu, Tempani, stage a protest against the brutality military in the area

On Wednesday, November 7, 2023, the youth of Garu, Tempani in the Upper East Region organized a protest to voice out their dissatisfaction with what they claim was military brutality that recently occurred in the region resulting in the deaths of several young people and the injuries of numerous others in the Tempani, Garu Districts.

Leading the demonstration was Rev. Prof. John Azumah, the Kusaug People’s Congress leader. To get the government and National Security Minister to look into the military abuse, he led the young people in Garu and Tempani to present their petition through the district chief executive, Hon. Abubakari Osman.

Rev. Prof. John Azumah claims that the military is not there to discriminate, as has been the case in this nation, but rather to protect all Ghanaians.
In an interview with the media, he stated that the military uniform is extremely valuable and esteemed, and it should not be utilized for any illicit activities.

He went on to say that it doesn’t seem like the military’s attack on Northerners was done with good intentions. The Security Minister is being urged to take immediate action on the matter.

Upon receiving the petition, the Garu District Chief Executive, Hon. Osman Abubakari, expressed gratitude to the youth for adhering to police orders during the demonstration and promised to forward it to the appropriate person on time.

Last but not least, Garu Tempani’s Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Albert Alalzuuga, expressed his concern and mentioned that they are eager to hear from the Deputy Security Minister on Thursday in Parliament.
