Thousands of people stripped naked for a large-scale photo shoot on an Australian beach to promote skin cancer awareness!

It was a chilly, windy, and occasionally rainy morning, but opportunities to serve as a model for a world-famous artist are rare. On Saturday, Nov 26, before dawn, tens of thousands of people flocked to Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach to strip off for nude photos by American photographer Spencer Tunick. He claimed that this was one of his most challenging pieces of labor. Bondi is challenging. It’s a tough area, yet it’s also incredibly beautiful.

For the project, Tunick collaborated with Skin Check Champions, a nonprofit organization that promotes awareness of the risk of skin cancer in Australia and the value of routine checkups. The 2,500 naked corpses that were photographed for the project are a representation of the yearly death toll from skin cancer in Australia. In addition to posing, each of them earned money for the group, which plans to use it to start a statewide skin check pilot project.

According to predictions from the federal government, Australia will see more than 17,000 new cases of skin cancer this year, and more than 1,200 Australians will pass away from the condition. “We have the ability to promote awareness about skin checks, and I’m honored to come here, produce my art, and simply celebrate the body and protection,” Mr. Tunick said on a crisp spring morning in Sydney. There were about 2,500 participants in the picture.
