Video: White Volta Flood Divides Bawku, Bolga; No Movement

Poor communities in Zebilla and Bazua of the Upper East Region continue to face hardship following the Bagre Dam spillage accompanied by torrential rains.

Floodwaters from the spillage has created what appears to be a small river across the only Bolga-Bawku road.

The fate of passengers from Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Bolga heading towards Bawku is hanging on a tin rope as the middle portion of the road on the White Volta washed away by the flood waters.

This was after the road was heavily flooded to the waist level over a kilometre stretch and the bridge submerged.

This annual ritual has affected the economic and social life of the people whose source of livelihood is farming and trade.

Farms along the While Volta have not been spared either as 100s of acres of maize farms and livestock have been washed away.

The White Volta divides Zebilla in Bawku West District and Bazua in the Bawku Central.

Many have wondered why this yearly problem continue to recure after years of spending taxpayers monies to train Ghanaian students and technocrats abroad who parade in big coats with chains of academic titles in such areas.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), only appears to be a consoling entity rather than a saviour always waiting for disaster to happen every year for it to share oil, rice, blanket and other food items.

The cries of the affected communities which is constantly occasioned by this eventuality has since become a predictable event on their calendar every year, a painful experience prayer cannot solve.

The cry is on government to find lasting solution, if there is, speed up the process to bring relief to many people once and for all.
