A woman and her two-year-old daughter have been found dead in their home in the Siyathemba informal settlement in Balfour, Mpumalanga.
Police made the gruesome discovery at the house on Monday.
The body of the 24-year-old woman was found on the kitchen floor. The girl’s body was found in the bedroom with an injury to the neck, said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
The woman’s five-month-old baby was found unharmed with his father.
Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, has urged the team of investigators to ensure that the perpetrators are “speedily arrested”. Manamela also vowed to continue the fight against gender-based violence.
“Police request anyone with information that will assist with the case to contact Sergeant Nhlanhla Tshabalala on 082 635 7143, or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Alternatively, members of the public can send information via the My SAPS app,” added Mohlala.
