3 possible causes of pain in the vagina

Vaginal pain or spasm may be due to a myriad of conditions, and its symptoms can differ relying on the underlying cause.

Depending on the condition, you may suffer from female organ itching, pain while having intercourse, and soreness of the female organ, to mention a few.

According to MedicalNewsToday publication, possible triggers of vaginal pain include:

1. Miscarriage

Pregnancy loss happens when a pregnancy terminates at or before twenty weeks of gestation.

More so, vaginal cramps and pregnancy loss can lead to spotting or bleeding and pain in the abdomen.

2. Getting infected

When the female organ gets infected, it can lead to vaginal cramps, sharp pain, inflammation, and discomfort. Common kinds of female organ infections are bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas, urinary tract infections, and yeast infections.

Infections can also be triggered by fever and unusual discharge, which may produce a foul smell.

3. Menstruation

Female organ cramps are a common indication of menstruation. They happen as the womb contracts to shed the uterine lining.

Although cramps higher up in the pelvis are more common, it is not unusual to feel cramping in the female organ also.

While health personnel would expect some mild cramping during menstruation, chronic pelvic pain and bleeding are not typical period symptoms.

A doctor can prescribe medications, including birth control pills, to lower the incidence of pelvic pain and discomfort caused by menstruation.
