The General Manager for Green Generation Farms Ltd, Mr. Emmanuel Frimpong Manso, has expressed support for the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative, describing it as a positive step that could help reduce the importation of frozen chicken into Ghana.
According to Mr. Frimpong Manso, if well received by the public and properly implemented, the initiative has the potential to save the country millions of cedis while creating employment and alternative livelihoods for many Ghanaians.
He, however, raised concerns over delays in rolling out the project and a lack of clarity on its implementation. Residents and poultry farmers in Techiman and the Bono East Region are yet to know when they will receive their share of the birds.
Mr. Frimpong Manso stressed that proper implementation of the initiative is crucial for boosting local poultry production, reducing reliance on imported frozen chicken, and supporting Ghanaian farmers.
“I think the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative is a very good one that will help reduce the importation of frozen chicken into the country.
“If the initiative is well accepted by the public and properly implemented, it will save the nation millions of cedis while providing employment and alternative livelihoods for many Ghanaians.
“However, it appears there are delays in its implementation, and the details are still unclear. We were expecting the project to begin around October, but here in Techiman and the Bono East Region, we do not yet know when we will receive our share.”
He further urged the government to consider a policy adjustment that would first allocate the birds to local poultry farmers for rearing before distribution to the general public.
“Honestly, I believe there should be a policy change so that the birds are first given to poultry farmers to rear before they are distributed to the general public.”
